If you are like most life can get very busy very quickly and often not with things related to taking care of yourself.
This is where my ever changing self care routine comes in. Usually during the week I tend to start this right before bed, so to not cut into that equally important time in our days this process can take as much or as little time as I need on the night. The only thing to keep in mind is the goal, at the end feel like a better you.
Here are some steps I tend to follow. I am speaking for myself but really feel this can be a guideline if you are better at looking after everything before yourself.
1. Getting comfortable; This may be obvious but is there anything better than pajamas or tights and an over-sized shirt after a hectic day. Get on what ever makes you feel the most relaxed and and uncork the vino or steep some tea. ( The pyjamas below are from Primark and say Bride vibes)
2. Your environment; Setting this is very important because I feel what is around really effects our mood. So, try to de-clutter and set the stage for your self ( Candles.....always candles)
3. Detox your skin; 1-3 times a week I enjoy doing a face-mask. I find this is great at relaxing the look of my skin. You can not always tell how much of your week shows in your face good or bad but after this I feel like a clean slate. I don't really have one I stick to other than all the ones I buy regularly have a charcoal element. ( right now I am enjoying the L'oreal pure clay charcoal mask)
4. Off the job - Do something that does not require you to be too far in your own head, especially anything work related. Weather it be a good book or blog you have been meaning to read or if it is just a TV show you are into. Just really get yourself lost in it and it really will help calm your brain. Lately I have been trying to make it reading and have been learning about mindfulness with hopes of getting into meditation or just better at rearranging my focus.
5. Writing in a Journal; I plan to do this as a post on its own of how much this step has helped me, it really is amazing. This is something I try to do as nightly as I can but especially on these me focused nights. It does not have to be long at all it can be as short as just a quick pep talk to yourself or writing down a few things that you are great-full for.
There they are, my 5 self care steps. None of this is set in stone for us all but it is just how my routine goes. I do hope it helps you find your self care routine. I would love to hear from you on if you do anything similar or what do you do to take care of your well being.
